Body mount shields on a 72?

Body mount shields on a 72?
I know these shields are for 73 and up. Has anyone used them on a earlier car? I assume the benifit is some protection of the body mount? I am using a 73+ body mount kit on my 72 and wondered if I should use these.
Following is from Dr Rebuild (page 108)
73-80 # 1 Body Mount Shields
Thick die cut sponge rubber, mounts outboard
of the # 1 body mount
73-80 # 3 Body Mount Shields
Thick die cut sponge rubber, mounts to the rear of the
# 3 body mount just in front of the rear body mount
inspection cover plates. Pair 9023443 7.50
