I'm in the middle of doing a rebuild of my front passenger brake caliper :smash: and I need help.
The 81 Corvette shop manual calls for a bead of "silastic sealant RTV" Gm part # GM1052366 or equivalent, inside the boot groove. The dealership told me it was an old number supersceded(sp?) by # 12378478 which would have to be special ordered :mad It looks to be a black sealant but hard to tell in a black & white manual  .What can I use as the equivalent?
NOBODY and I mean NOBODY had ever heard of putting RTV inside a brake caliper
Surely someone here can enlighten me with what I should look for.
Thanks in advance
If I remember correctly, I simply used Black Silicone RTV for this purpose. Thought it was just to seal the outside of the 'dust cover', if memory serves me correctly, but it was a couple of years ago, so maybe I'm not remembering correctly. Sorry I can't be of more help.
John,
Before I installed SS calipers, I rebuild the originals a couple times.
I always used RTV in the boot groove.
The reason is that the piston boot never seals completely on the rough
casting of the caliper.
The RTV "fills in" the imperfections usually from rust scale.
I put some on the piston/boot and also the caliper/boot.
As a follow up question,
Did you use the piston ring compressor tool J-22629 or J-22639 to get the seal lip inside the bore hole? can something else be used or can the tool be rented?
Thanks

You can just use a small screw driver and carefully work the seal inside the bore. Just be very careful not to scratch the bore or hurt the seal.
Just a quick update,
It's all back together:smash: and so far no leaks
A big THANK YOU to those who responded
