Default Crate motor/builder suggestions

considering a budgert of about $7500.00 dollars. and a desire to see something in the neighborhood 425hp/ 425TQ. What builder of crate motor would you folks feel was best?
If you think my numbers are to high for my budget, what types of numbers do you think i could get?

You can buy a GM crate 'ZZ383" 425hp for that money ($6,900 approx), and there are others also.

My ZZ383 straight from GM was just a little over $5000, this along with a good water pump (comes with the long neck kind), fuel pump, carb, intake, headers, and maybe a serpentine set up would set you up quite nicely. The ZZ383 is rated at 426hp, and 449tq. You might also consider fuel injection to fill out your budget, could be one way to go. That would be a sweet motor!

thnx, had NO idea the ZZ383 was in that price range. I am "once again" shipping off to another location while serving in the US Navy. I bought the vette 7 yrs ago while stationed in Pearl harbor ( research my old post-its fun). I PCS'ed here to the east coast 4 yrs ago, and brough her with me. She ran nearly maintenance free for me for almost 3 years, and then she went down hill!
Spun a bearing last july!!!!!
I am less then 45 days from PCS'ing to Naples Italy. But, i am leaving her with my brother while stationed over seas ( havent decided to ship over or not). But while i am in Europe, he will get a new engine put into the car!!!!

T&L out of North Carolina/NASCAR country.. not too far from you.

Here's an article on their 383's.

http://www.popularhotrodding.com/tec...d/results.html

I'd go with a used Roller Cam block and Forged Crank..
Brodix IK's or Canfield Heads instead of the Edelbrocks.. and 180-185cc
instead of 170cc's.

I don't know about who is best but I would take a long look at Shafiroff street engines:

402 460 hp
402 490 hp
and
Unclaimed pump gas street engines

These are built on new Dart SHP blocks and if my old eyes do not fail me in the garage these really look great.

I cannot compare them with other products available but the list is impressive.

A picture doesn't do justice to a live Shafiroff engine.

I personally like the ZZ383, great motor when considering price/power/weight.

Summit Racing has them, here is a link:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...2&autoview=sku

Here are some other options:

ZZ 502
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...2&autoview=sku

ZZ 454

LS 3
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

LS 6
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...8&autoview=sku

And if you hit the lotto, or money is no object:

The all aluminum ZL-1 Anniversary Edition

Like I stated, I would like to have the ZZ383, but still I salivate at the thought of dropping one of those aluminum 427's in my '69 vert!

You will get people on both sides of the discussion of which block is better.
IMO, if you are using the vehicle as weekend fun (not necessarily racing) these should be fine. I have a 68 with a 327 / 369HP. During the summer I drive it around a few times per week. I have never run the engine over 4800 RPM even though it should do well over that.
Take a look at the A2 in mt last post. $5k and tons of TQ and 500 HP
