Default My ZZ4 is alive!!

Sorry to brag , but, am very happy and must post the success of installing a ZZ4 crate motor and Tremac 5 spd overdrive in my 70. Did all the work myself, sometimes a struggle, but, it's in and running. Now to get the Hedmans connected to the mufflers and let's go Autocrossing again.
Will overhaul the original L46 #'s matching with a burned bearing and set it aside for my heirs to put back in some day.
Must say there are a number of mods and parts needed that are not spelled out in any of the Vendor lit and had to be learned the hard way.

Water pump is one. If you have a stick, then you don't need the flexplate, but what else? New motor mounts (since you're there). What else?

Here are most of them. My rear ratio is 3.73.

ZZ4
Came with long water pump, had to buy short one, but, most all know this
Water pump bolt had to be ground off to clear cover ( covered by vendor info)
Came with electric tach drive, 1970 has mechanical. Had to buy new dist as vendor could not exchange
No provision for temp sensor in LH head, had to relocate to intake manifold
Bell housing cover plate had to be ground about ½ “ to clear crankshaft
Busted off oil pressure line pulling motor, my fault. New one installed
Original exhaust cast manifold square ports don’t match ZZ4’s D shaped ones. Headman make headers specifically for the ZZ4
Original fuel pump won’t fit with Headman’s. New fuel pump put in, which has no provision for a return line to the tank as the original.
Flywheel not transferrable, no biggy as I wanted a new one anyway

Tremac
No mention of what to do with TCS sensor . Tremac had no connection . After messing with relocating the temp sensor and vacuum line found this out.
Nothing said about the reverse column lock cable that went from the trans to steering column
Have to remove differential brace to install new driveshaft (not covered)
Dust cover underneath way off from fitting and ground off about 3/8”. What a PITA to install
Filled tranny before installing. New drive shaft on back order. Jacked up car to install engine/trans and all the oil leaked out the trans onto the floor. Need DS to seal off.

Congratulations. The ZZ4 is a great motor and doing all the work yourself is a proud achievement. See you on the road

Way to go Fred! I can't wait to see it and hear it run. Did you go with the small flywheel and 10.5" clutch?
