Default tailshaft housing swap question...

Hi guy's,
Don't know allot about muncies. Have an m-20 that I'm considering using for my 67 nova. It's out of a friends midyear and has the 429 housing. I would need a different shifter and gate as well as the 584 tail shaft housing with the speedo gear on the passenger side. My question is how simple is it to change over the housing? Is it a tear down of all the internals or just a on/off bolt on? Thanks for your input.

I rebuilt my Muncie myself several years ago so my memory is a little foggy. If I recall, this is not a simple procedure. First, you need to make sure that the location of the speedometer drive gear on the output shaft of the transmission will line up with the new speedometer driven gear location on the new tailshaft. You will need some gaskets, but I don't think you need you need to completely dissassemble the gears, synchros, etc. Watch the reverse gear lever as sometimes it is difficult to get it to engage properly.

Maybe Steve Cangialosi at 5Speeds.com will chime in. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
