Default What size tires are these?

I'm trying to look for a set of tires for my '75, but I'm not sure what the numbers mean. Right now I have goodyear 225/70R15 on them. What do the numbers mean, I know some of the numbers are outside diameter and one is inside, but not sure which and in what measurements.

They're mounted on mag rims right now, but I have an original set of rims that I'd like to use. Are these the same size tires? If not, what originally came with a '75 coupe?

225 is the width of the tire..i believe millimeter
70 is the side wall hieght:70% of the width
15 is the rim diameter

Thanks for the help.

Do you or anyone know what size tires were on there originally? Or maybe a better question is what size will fit without binding on the fenders or interefering with anything else?

I think 245/60 15 would be a good safe size to go with.

245/60/15 fronts, 255/60/15 rears are about the largest you can use without rubbing frame or wheel well openings.

Having many 75's along the way, the 225/70R15's are the correct tire size for that year. I would not go with the 245/60's because they will not fill the wheelwell in height that would appeal to you. If you want a bigger tire you can fit the 255/60's on there. I had them on a 74 cooupe at one time. even I felt they were not high enough to fill the well. The 225's are 27.4" high, you want to go at least that height or as close as you can get. You can check out specs for tire sizes on various web sites. Later.................Tom

the 225/70-15 are the correct size for your car as stated above. However the 255/60 fill quite nicely being almost the exact same diameter.

look at my sig pic below

255/60 in back
245/60 in front

I think they fill the wells just fine

check out the image gallery on my website - there are closer images to look at to get an idea how well these tires fit. One thing you should know, tire diamter can vary significantly between manufacturers sometimes.
