Default Edelbrock Air Gap Question

Will the Edelbrock Air Gap (the short one, not the tall one) fit under the stock GM hood of a 80?

A Holley carb (un-milled) will be used and a drop-base A/C.

It fits under the stock smallblock hood of a 72, but the lid rubs on the hood, and a wing-nut cannot be used.
This is using a 2.5 inch element in a drop-base and a Holley.

So.. how about an 80? Anybody tried it? If so, what height is your filter element?

Tom

FYI- the 2.5 element caused 10HP worth of restriction on a dyno for the 72.

Yep tried it and it fit, many different ways to do it, drop base is most common but I like to see the hardware :D

I did the calculations and the setup shown is good for a little over 5000 RPM,
( which I rarely get to anyway ) the setup I am going to use when I get serious will be a drop base 2.5 inch K&N element with and Extreme top.

Since you say "the short one" I'm assuming you're talking about the Performer Air Gap and not the RPM Air Gap.

I've got the Performer (2101, non Air Gap) under my hood with the stock carb and air cleaner. I think the clearance is pretty close, but I haven't checked to find the exact amount.

The Performer Air Gap is listed as .27 inches taller than the Performer. If you've got at least that much drop in your air cleaner, I think you should be fine.

If you're talking about the RPM Air Gap, listen to Motorhead. He's the knowledgable one there. :D

Tom, Clink got the RPM Air Gap to fit under the hood of his 69 without too much effort http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=219513 . That air cleaner base looks an awful lot like the stock L46 base that came with my car. I do know also that the 80 hood has more room under it than a 69 small block hood, so it should fit. Also, the L46 base will work with a dual feed Holley.
