I have a 79 Vette auto w/ 355 gears. Car is a weekend driver. Looking to go w/ a 383 crate. First one is a 425hp/465tq and the other is a 460hp/465tq. What combo would you choose for sometimes "spirited" street driving?

Based on the limited info you listed, I would take the one with more hp.
If you were to list some details of the parts, or post a couple of links to the engine descriptions you will get better answers.
Those look like real motors, Good heads, Forged bottom end, great dyno sheets, Fair price. I would check to see the manufacturer of the internals but look real good. 408 A3 is real close to my build, same heads, same cam, little less compression. next size bigger stroke. I got over $6000 in my long block. I have heard nothing but good things about T&L except sometimes they take a little longer to build them. All the real good shops take a little longer it seems.
I am looking at the T&L Engines. The 383 w/ 425hp and the 460hp motors. Both have aluminum heads and roller cams. Both have 465tq. Which one would be a better street engine in a 79 Vette?

Whichever one fits under the stock hood
Both motors probably use some sort of high rise intake to make those numbers. Make sure you check hood clearance.

Both seem to have the Edlebrock RPM intake and it will not fit under a standard Corvette hood.. I have Edlebrock Torker II on my 68 and it fits fine. If interested in this engine combo, I would call T&L and talk to them about height?

An RPM manifold may not fit under an early C3 SB hood, but it fits fine under a 73-75 (or even 79) hood. Edelbrock assumes stock aircleaner. I have an Edelbrock RPM Q-Jet (same height as an RPM or Air Gap) with Moroso Low Profile Racing Air Cleaner and 3" filter. 3/4" clearance at the front of the filter.

Steve, thanks for a great page!
Steve & George, I have a 355 and used to run a '69 SB hood and Edelbrock Performer RPM intake. The books say it won't fit, but it did.
Who's got a 383 w/ 425hp/460tq? How is it on the street, is it alot more fun to drive?
I don't have the T&L motor, but have the engine factory 475hp 383.
Mine has issues cruising along in top gear at less than 1500 rpm due to the cam, but I figure the T&L 425 hp motor will be exceptional on the street....
I managed 325 rwhp on the chassis dyno, with ~370 ft-lb at the rear wheels.
It is a lot, lot, lot more fun than the 327 slushbox I had before.
Any car that has an honest 300 horses at the wheels will be fun to drive, let alone one that has oodles of torque too.
You'll love it.
