Default 400 turbo pan

I am installing a 400 turbo in my 1971 project. Will be behind a 450HP ZZ383. I know that heat buildup is bad for transmissions, which leads to my question. I saw a Rossler built transmission, with what was described as a steel GM truck pan, which provided an additional 2quart fluid capacity and a drain plug. This passive addition makes sense to me, as the additional fluid should help tranny to run cooler, and a whole lot easier to drain fluid from a plug, than the side of the pan. My only real concerns are any clearence issues the lower pan may cause. Am I missing anything, here? Thought I would just supply parts needed to rebuilder when I deliver. Would anyone have further info on this pan, such as GM part number, and I am sure I will also need a filter extension, with this deeper pan, right? Going with a stock rebuild, but have read on forum that staying with B&M rebuild components is the way to go. Do they make a kit for the turbo 400? Any advice appreciated!

I used the truck pan when I was running a 400 in my 68, no clearance issues at all. You will need the filter extension

Could you provide me with the correct GM part numbers for the pan and the extension. If not, maybe point me in the right direction for a source who would have them.

I don't have that trans anymore, so I can't go out and look for the numbers.
I bought the pan from a trans shop used for $30. If you'd still like to use a GM pan, try the website above or the salvage yards in the truck section

Mike,
Check out these guys...
http://www.yourcovers.com/tp_9683.shtml

This particular pan is the "truck" depth, but they offer a standard depth as well.
They make some very nice cast aluminum parts for a lot of different vehicles. I bought a pair of their valve covers for my 327 and was most impressed with the quality of the product. They offer most of their stuff in raw cast, powder coated as well as polished. Polished is not cheap, but when you see how substantial they are, you will understand. These are not light weight castings.

Good luck... GUSTO

Well I faxed Rossler Transmission about deep truck pan info, got no response, so called today. Got a guy named Jerry who politely informed me that Rossler rebuilt transmissions, that they were not in the parts business. So does anyone have any suggestions as to the best way to track down the GM parts needed to add this pan to my turbo 400. Is it just the pan and a filter extention that are needed or are there other parts also. Is there a source for looking up GM parts I could access? Any info is appreciated.

I bought my truck pan from a local transmission shop. They picked up a used one for me, cleaned it up and painted the O/s black.

Hey from over the hill PM sent concerning the cruise in April

William-Best I can come up with is try your local trans shops or wrecking yards. You should be able to find something worth using in the truck section
