Default Engine for 1968

New to this game and not a mechanic. Bought 68 vette which had 427, doug nash trans, 3:73, hooker comp headers and side pipes. I have the distrubutor , ignition, radiator , power steer pump. Heres my questions.
1. stay with big block or go small block.
2. If I go small block what will I have to buy extra.
3. Fuel injection or not.

My goals: Sweet looking and sounding muscle vette to drive on occasion. will not race but want good stuff in it.

any other advise is welcome
thanks

Welcome to the site. Congrats on your purchase. You will find you will get more infor/answers if you fill out your profile so we know who you are. We also like PICTURES.

Is the 427 the original motor in the car? I would stay withthe BB but then I am biased (running a 454 in my '68). Can I assume the Doug Nash tranny is a 5 speed? (my next project).

Again welcome,

shmoky

Why do you want to convert a big block to a small block? I have a 68 427/390 and love the torque of the big block. I would stick with the 427 and put on a good carb and enjoy it.

Blazing yellow micah sounds like a neat color. Can't wait for pics. Sounds like lots of custom work on the car. Is it easy to work on with the tilt front end?

I've seen pics of C3's with C5 seats in them, which are a lot more comfortable and supportive than anything that came OEM. One of the biggest problems with C3's,however, is that Chevrolet tried to give the car the illusion of being longer than it really was by giving it the 'coke-bottle' look and pinching the middle of the car. So the price we pay for having these bitchin' looking cars is...no elbow room.

The stock seats are fine. It's the overall confining nature of the cockpit that makes it feel cramped. Go with stock seats. I just think seats from a different generation make the car look pieced together.

So I take it there is no motor in it now? Is there a trans? Depends on your budget and power expectations. I would approch buying drivetrain parts like you should aproch buying a corvette. Buy the best, most complete you can afford. If all you have is a 3.70 rear end and you already have the BB radiator and hood and starting from scratch the TKO 600 trans from Keisler and a dressed ZZ454 wouldn't be a bad option. The ZZ454 is a roller cammed fully forged aluminum head engine with 500 ft lbs of torque and a warrantee for around $6000. Not a bad deal. Need a 454 flywheel. Your 427 flywheel won't work.

if you have a 4 speed, I don't think it's a Doug Nash box, Muncie, not a DN...

keep the 427

If you change the steering wheel to a 69 you will fit better...it's the huge wheel in the 68 that make going in and out a chore...
