Default Cold Backfire

All engine people, i put a rebuilt 350 in my 74 to replace a bad l-82 and for a while it was running too advanced and backfired a lot. Retarded the timing and tuned it up much better, but its still getting backfires on cold starts, and seems to have no low end torque or power. It gets off the line like a granny but upper rpms seem good. any ideas would help

Sounds like the cam timing could be off a tooth to the slow side.

It actually ended up being a faulty vacuum advance. It was stuck open and causing all kinds of acceleration problems. I replaced it and the car runs like new! If it was cam timing that would have really been bad but thankfully not

Default vacuum advance

the vacuum advance is the small metal canister thing on the side of your distributor. It should have a rubber line coming from the carburetor to it. It is held in by one screw if you take the distributor cap off and can be interchanged with a new one. ill try and get a pic when im off work
