I am replacing the Ign Switch on my 71 4 speed. But, the shaft that comes down from the key switch along the steering column does not look right. The 90 degree bend in the shaft goes straight up rather then to the right. The right turn would hook into the ign switch. Is it possible that the shaft that attaches to the key switch is screwed up or has become unhooked. How do I open the key switch on the column to check.
Thanks, any help would be appreciated.I can not find this level of detail in the Assembly Manual
There are two types of switches. One for standard (non-adjustable) columns and the other for T&T columns. Make sure you have the correct one.
Also, for helpful instructions, go to http://www.corvettefaq.com and look under Suspension and Steering.
There are several papers and pictures that should help. The first is Adjust Dimmer and/or Ignition Switch - Dropping the Steering Column and Adjusting.
The second paper is either the Standard Column Disassembly Instructions and Pictures or else the Tilt & Telescoping Disassembly Instructions and Pictures.
If you need further help, either post another thread to your message or eMail me at JIML82@aol.com.
