Default Electric Fans

I am thinking about going to electric fan(s) on my 75 350. I researched the forum and found that either a Taurus or Mark VIII fan will work. I found some information on controllers. I was looking on Summit and found Hayden controllers HDA 3647 (probe) and 3651 (thread in). Will these controllers work with the ford fans? Is one better than the other?
thanks,
scott

That should work, though I think most people just buy misc. parts from their local autozone (or other). My only concern with their little kit is that it doesn't look like it has very much wire with it. And if you have to splice in your own wiring, you might as well just do it all yourself.

That, and their kit costs more than most junk yard fans do.

That being said, if you do buy their kit and it works out, let me know. I've got my fan sitting in the garage and I haven't gotten around to doing anything with it yet.

I had a set of twin Maradyne fans on my 700 hp 468 on the street. with a 180 T stat ans Stewart stage 2 waterpump. The fans kept the motor at 190 . never let me down. Great fans, moved almost 3000 CFM of air.

Default Here's my Mark VIII fan

RamJet 350 running on 730 ECM, Mark VIII fan, DC Control, Summit Radiator, & separate Relay for backup fan start signal.

I used a 180°F thermostat; drilled two 1/8" holes in it for fill&vent, and my engine runs at ~175°F when it's all warmed up.

Great pictures guys I am looking forward to getting mine complete. I still have question about the fan controller.
The haydan controller is less than $40 I thought that was fairly reasonable. The dccontrollers are in the $140 range. What's the difference?

the dc control is a potted wheather proof control. it also is a progresive control as it comes on at a lower temp, and the fan gets faster as the temp goes up until it levels off at the set temp. it will keep it at that temp. don't know about the other..

One hundred bux and a uber designed contoller that is UNnecessary and overpriced....

a simple on /off relay works fine....

it's the way car companies have done it for centuries....

it works, leave it alone...

Another benefit to the dccontrol setup is that the noise level is much less due to the fact it doesn't come on at full speed unless needed. It will only run at full speed if it can't keep the temperature down at a lesser speed. It's also less taxing on your electrical system. The MarkVIII fan draws something like 40 amps I believe.

Ditto, except I used 2, one for low and 1 for high speeds

I have Focus fans in my car. I tried the Derale controller. It appears to be the same as the Hayden. It was fried in 10 minutes. The Ford fans draw alot of amps at statrup.
The progressive controller is the way to go but expensive.
I now have mine setup with one fan always on and the other triggers from the A/C.
I have not driven it enough yet to tell if this setup is what I want. My feeling so far is that the one fan on only is not enough cooling.
So I may alter this setup again after I drive it some more.

I had an 86 Firebird for 6 months before I found out the fan didn't work, never got hot as long as the car was moving.
