Hi, folks, was just looking around on the internet for an aluminum radiator for my 1980 'vette, and I came across Alumorad aluminum radiators. $234.00 plus $25.00 for shipping, sounds pretty cheap, anybody have any experience with Alumorad? Are they good radiators?
I can't comment on Alumorad since I've never heard of them. I will tell you what you probably all ready know. If you want the best radiator here's where you need to be. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...-purchase.html Just remember sometimes the best price isn't the best value. You get what you pay for.
I have never heard of that brand in the 8 years that I have been on the forum. Doesn't mean that the product isn't good, but an aluminum radiator at that price suggests a Chinese manufacturer. I have a couple of Chinese-made bass guitars that are very good for the price, but for aluminum radiators I prefer Dewitt's. From my experience Chinese quality control is spotty at best.
I've got a DeWitt aluminum radiator, in my '80. It's been in there for 6 years, with no trouble at all. You may spend a little more up front but the value is more than worth it. Excellent customer service and American made.

Scott, here's what I see about them. The core is listed as a "two row" but it doesn't say what size the rows are. The core thickness is listed as 1.75" and that means they obviously are not two rows of 1" tubes like ours. Our core is 2.25" thick.
My guess is the radiators are made in China with two rows of 16mm tubes. The other thing that concerns me is the lower hose connection looks a bit long and too straight. It's hard to tell because you cannot enlarge the photo but I'm going to say that baby is going to hit the suspension. Check out your stock radiator now and see how much clearence there is now. There isn't any! The hose actually touchs the bar sometimes, so ANY deviation in this area means a no go.
They also have the open U shape channels that scream replacement radiator and I doubt the left tank has the relief for hood clearence. Many times this is a must to get the hood to close correctly. This photo is not your model, because it has a 90 degree fitting but it shows the flat hood relief area and our GM type hat channels
I bought a radiator very similiar to this one last year on ebay. It works good but it required several mods to make it fit and not to hit the sway bar. I did not like the rubber sleeve required for the top radiator hose. Also It required minor mods on the lower hose. Like I said once I got it to fit properly it is working and cooling fine. Like Tom said you get what you paid for. If I had it to do all over again I would invest the extra cash and go with the Dewitts.
