Default Steel Bellhousing

I'm building a mild 383(425hp) for my 77 vet. I'm going to use my T-10 and 14" flywheel,11" clutch. My engine builder suggested I think about a steel bellhousing. I'm not a drag racer and don't plan on spinning it past 5500. Do I need one and what is recomended. Thanks.

Any stick shift car that might get hammered on once in awhile is a candidate for a scattershield. There are many out there. Mcleod, Lakewood etc. They take a little work to dial in...but no biggee. Definitely makes you feel better. They don't wear out and as you eventually add more power ( you know you will!) you'll already be protected.

I'm with Jim on this. I don't drag race my C3/SA, but have had a scattershield behind every NOM BB that's ever been under the hood. Gave some thought to saving weight here a while back, but after thinking again about failures of which I've heard I doubt that I could rest easy without one.

If you have ever seen what a clutch can do to a car even at low rpm when they let go you would run a steel bellhousing. I have never run a performance car without one. The clutch is a buzz saw when it lets go and will take out anything in its path. Cheap insurance IMO.

Thank's for the reply guys. I forgot to mention this is a father and son project. In one year he'll be driving. He said he will be driving cautiously
and he will never drag race. Just as I did when I was 16.
