Default New prototype hood pins and stops!!

Hey all... I wanted to take advantage of removing the hood latches on the vette and go with a more simplistic approach. Here is a snapshot on a new hood stop not yet released and a new color called Black Chrome.

In the picture, the three colors are Polished Billet, PC Black and Black Chrome.

What color do y’all think would look best on my hood, Black Chrome or Polished Billet? I was thinking of the Billet, but the Black Chrome is so cool and such a different color I can't decide. Here are a few pics of the hood and engine to see if it helps with the color selection.

When complete, I will post the install pics to see what you think in case any of you are interested and I already know a half dozen that are so stay tuned.

Darin, I also thought the black would be the best. But the PC Black would look pretty too. So my vote would be for the PC Black.

First ? I would like to ask what are they made of? If they are stainless then I would simply go with polished and or Billet. But then again I am more of a function person and have found that over time chrome peels lol. So I tend to like things as they are made and or painted.

The black chrome looks the best. How big are they? That would make all the difference as you would not want a 4" round piece of billet on you hood. I am using some Motorsport latches now and would really like something different.

I have the billet ones, the're about 2-3/4" diameter, very nicely made but not cheap!

Thanks for all the replys and PM's. Hands down the vote went to the Chrome Black so that is what I ordered today. I will get them in next week and update the post on how I installed them.

Personally, I think this is a really good investment as I know how many problems I have had with the latches inthe past. I have also read just how many folks on the forum have had simular issues...well no more, and less crap under the hood that can go wrong.

Nick,

Did you get the height adjusters? They are brand new and will be a nice addition to your setup. Also, the chrome is about 50% more. However, I like to do thing once and only once if I can help it and I would rather spend the money on a quality product one time and be done with it.

Do you have any closer pics of your install? How and where you placed them. Also, did you get the slanted version?

Default Just A Thought!

For someone at my stage of the restoration process, who like the idea of the hoodpins as opposed the potentially problematic latch system. The plain aluminum pin setup could be prepped and painted to blend in with the color choice for your car. Just a thought!

Very interested in your installed pics, Darin. I have a lot of problems with my latch system and I'd like to just do away with the whole thing...

Where are these pins from?

This is exactly why I want mine gone. I realy look to make things simple and not so complex that if they break or get stuck your scr$%^ed.

When I origionally bought my chrome latch setup it was a nightmare getting them adjusted so it would open properly. I am embarased to say how long it took for me to finally open the hood...my car sat there the first time for 4 days becasue I just could not get it open. Then when I finally did, I readjusted them and closed the hood to test and it took me another 3 hours to open again.

Never mind all the weight I am gonna save by taking them off

www.hoodpins.net is the place they were on a dozen SEMA cars in 07-08

Did you get the pins installed? Also, what did you do for brackets after removing the latch assemblies?

Thx, Gary

If you check you photobucket below, you may still find some pix of my reverse hinged hood, so I could do up and over induction....

those hinges are off a Lumina mini van....and the pins are 1/2" stainless marine bolts from West Marine....and washers too, with a hole drilled through, heads cut off, the 1/2" bolts have pin through them and a handy ****** ring.....

made them myself, good stainless never rusts...
