Simple question about the 1979 4 speed shifter

In the 1979 Corvette, what is up with the 4 speed T shifter, pulley thing; what does it do? What is the purpose? Why is it there?

you pull it up to shift into reverse.. I dont know anything about them myself but it seems most people in here say they are junk shifters and to buy a hurst. Thats what I did, cant wait to try it out!

If yours doesn't work for shifting into Reverse then it might have already been swapped for a Hurst with the "cosmetic" T.

It's a reverse lockout. You might be better off looking for an owner's manual and reading it before asking questions about 'pulley things'.

Owners manual.. that reminds me, I found a pdf online of a 71 manual and I was going to print it but was out of ink, now I cant find it again. Anybody know where they are at?
