I see you have a chrome bumper car, I have 4.5 BS on our 79 with 8.5 wide rims with no issues on stock trailing arms. Now the front might be an issue with rubbing with full turn on your bumper car.
Hey guys!
What is the maximum of Backspace from a 18" diameter rim on stock trailing arms and stock front suspenison? 4"? 4,5?
Thanks, Günther
On '68 I have 5" backspace on rear with 18 X 9 rims and stock trailing arms. With 285/40/18 it gets very close but dosen't touch - parking brake cable is another matter. Front is 4" backspace and 18 x 8 rim with 245/45/18 - contact issues here! driver side, tyre slightly on inside of chassis rail - passenger side bottom rear of fender opening, this on my car needed sectioning for clearance!

CF'er Bee Jay has just put a set of 295/35's & 18 x 10.5's C5 Z06 wheels on his C3 w/2.5" adapters, but he's getting some 2" adapters, as they're likely to hit the outer fender opening as they are. If it works, and my calculations are correct, that works out to 5.9" BS. FWIW, he does have offset TA's.
I'm pretty sure that past 5.5" of backspace with 18" wheels in the rear the frame becomes the limiting factor not the trailing arm. Check with Gordonm on that one to be sure. In the front with VB&P tubular arms for the mono spring set up you can get away with 4.5" of backspace. I know that's what Chris McDonald was running on his black '69 vert "Killer Shark".

I've got 5 inch on my 18's and the wheel and tire are just flush with fender with 9.5" rim. I believe you can fit 5.5 inch but that might change from year to year or Vette to Vette
