Is there a good (read cheap) way to repair a dashpad. it doesn't matter if it is in or out of the car as it is the only thing left in the interior, but it would be nice to fix it cheaply so that it looks decent for a while. I am already spending money on carpet and seats and if the dash is too expensive to fix, it will start eating horsepower from the motor. In other words, the dash would not be fixed. The crack is maybe an 1/8" wide and and 1 1/2 in. long. On an oyster 1980
People say they get good results with a dashpad skin and crack repair kit. The trick is to repair the crack(s) first, then install the skin over the top of your repair work.
Just fininshed mine ... not too bad ... except for the drilling of all the speaker holes, and the smoothing of the glue. Plan on spending a lot of time with a drill motor and a hair drier. But the end result is darn good if I do say so myself
sounds like a lot. i dont want to spend that much right now, so i may just live with it. has anybody tried that product on tv "liquid leather" or something? it is supposed to fix small cracks and tears "so you couldn't tell" it was always late at night and i was drunk so i never remember the name. anybody recognize it?
You can get the vinyl/leather repair kits at Wal Mart or most any autoparts store, but the results are likely going to be pretty disappointing (they were for me). The dash skins (this is not a dash pad, just a skin that goes over the existing pad and skin with adhesive) are not that expensive, and they come up quite often on ebay at about $90. If you're not trying for restoration, just for a decent looking dash, I'd go that way myself.
