Default pushrod gude plate help

Hi
I have 1980 with stock heads and I am installing roller rockers from Comp Cam part #1412-16 and the instructions say I must use guide plates. I have read other places that if all was fine before then i dont need guide plates. Please help me on this

You will need the guide plates! These rocker arms are NOT self centering and the guide plate keeps them aligned on the valve stem or they will rotate to one side or the other and off of the valve stem causing damage to the engine.

Vettevic is right! You need self aligning rocker arms or guide plates.

You need screw-in rocker studs in order to make use of guide plates. Did you have your heads machined for screw-in studs?

on 80 stock head ,,i think u can install them directly , if u want to install guide plate then
u have to change the press in bolts that holds the rocker arms into screw in studs

& idont think u will gain more than 3-5 hp by using roller rockers

If your heads are not machined, you won't be using guide plates.
