Default Getting the Steering Flexible Coupling Off

OK, I got the column out after much angst. My should bolts were stuck/rusted to the flange. After much PB Blaster and careful work to not mess up the column I got it out and the column is on the kitchen table. I also got the pinch bolt out. The issue I have is that I can't get the pinch to release so I can pull the coupling off the stearing box. Any suggestions? I tried getting a screwdriver in there but can't get enough leverage to get it to release?

Ideas?

I can't remember if the pinch clamp is threaded on both sides. If it is try threading the bolt in and slide a washer in between the bolt and the threads on the other "ear" of the pinch clamp and use the bolt to lever it apart. If it is not threaded on both ears, thread the bolt in on the ear with the threads and try the washer trick. I don't know if it will work, I'm just brainstorming.....

I put a chizel with a square shank on it in the opening and turned the chizel with an adjustable wrench. It doesn't have to spread very far to get it off. It will not come off with the bolt through even if the nut is removed.

Got it off. My craftsman chisel set are all six sided, something I never noticed before. Got the monster one in there and then used my 1/2 drive sockets with a 24 in breaker bar, went one way and then the other and it opened up.

Nice tip!
