Done this many times before but seem to be having problems this time.
Every time I try to get the outer dust seal in place I get 3/4's seated but cannot get the last part to seat, I end up bending the outer metal. Grrrrrr!
Hmm, measure the inside diameter of the dust seal hole in the caliper and check with the others if same.
I use a metal ring ( from a bearing ) same size as the dust seal to punch it in even.
Good luck. Günther
but I believe I used a large socket to hammer it in...after I lined it up. And somewhere along the way someone told me to use locktite on the ring....so I've been doing that too.
I buy the "better" seal kits and I haven't a leak in a couple of years.
I use a 1 1/2" white PVC plumbing union to hammer in the front seals. 1" union works for the rears.
Just rebuilt a set of calipers for one of my Vettes. Dorman brand kits. Had a hard time with a couple of the seals, problems I never had before. Ended up using 2 seals I had left over from a partial kit.
Always used Raybestos kits in the past.
Dorman is chinese made! Figures! Wonder how long they'll last....
I've rebuilt vett calipers many times and use a peice of 3/4 scrap oak block to set the boots. I never once had a problem getting boots to fit but I used bendix rebuild kits. Lately I rebuilt a set of calipers and used a set of kits I bought from Muskegon Brake and the crap they sold me bent like yours did. I just happen to have some left over bendix boots and used them with no problems. You may still be able to use the boots you have if you carefully tap the edge of the boot ring with a lighter hammer.
