Default Hot Rod Air Question???

I already have the kit and Im insulating the interior right now. Since the instructions are pretty vague I have a question. Can I delete the side cowl air vents? I wanted to seal them off so no hot air from the engine bay can get in anymore.

oem a/c cars didn't have a drivers side cowl vent, and the pass side was operated by an actuator when the a/c was in the "max"(recirculate) mode. the hot rod air system doesn't use the recirculate air path of the oem's, so there isn't any need for them unless you want to keep them for fresh air on cooler days.

Default I sealed mine off....

...just shut the doors and sealed them with RTV. All they ever let in was warm air anyway.
I then insulated over the whole area.

On the 69 we did here, we sealed off the passenger side vent, and we also sealed off the two fresh air vents that used to divert fresh air to the vent *****.

It won't hurt anything and if your kit works like the one we installed you'll need a snow coat when done. It by far worked better than any other kit we have installed.

Yes I agree, the instructions could use a tune up and yes the thing very. . . very . . . tight under the passenger side dash pad.

IMHO,

Willcox

The brackets are on the same level as the instructions...they are...to say the least...Flimsy..Im gonna use some universal strap to keep it tight...I may try to do a very informative breakdown of my install with pics etc. Send it to hot rod air and maybe they will consider revamping their instruction booklet.

This is the car we did it on. I think once you have it in the car the brackets will hold just fine. They are thin and maybe they changed since we did the 69 I don't know, but they are still holding up just fine. Notice the switch in the shift console. . . This was before they came out with the kit for making the heater control work.

Oh yeah, if you want to make it look real nice find a used center wiper switch plate for an a/c car. Then you'll have the factory look even better!

You lost me? Do you have it set up on the ****/switch system like in the picture above?

If you do, Hot Rod now makes a service harness we can sell you to convert it to work with the heater control.

It's not on our site but the instruction sheet that comes with the kit is.

If you decide you want this, you can give us a call or you can go straigtht ot hot rod air.

The control panel selection is one of the reasons I went with hotrodair. I didnt want to go with stock controls. The normal controls that come with the kit are kinda 1985 cutless supreme lookin..not very appealing to the eye..Their aluminum control panels on the other hand are very slick and very well built. Everyone else that offers an aftermarket AC/heater kit only offers stock style controls..Im not a fan of the wheel I have the stock console(that fits over the tunnel) and a custom aluminum shifter plate..

I understand the purpose of sealing the plenum vent on the cowl area, but (as I understand), that vent is also needed to drain the raining/washing water which gets inside the wiper's area and pass it through the driver's side to the floor. I sealed that door when I re-did my A/C because the actuator was shut, but now I see a lake of water in there when ever I wash my car!! .. I really still dont know what to do regarding that!
