Default Removing the dash mounted headlight switch in a 69?

I'm in the process of putting my dash back into my 69.
I would like to take out the headlight switch to fix the piece that say "lights" on it.
I know how to un-do the nut that holds the switch in place but how does the **** come off the shaft so I can pull the switch through the dash?

The **** and the shaft are a unit. The way you remove it is as follows. On the top side of the switch there is a little spring-loaded button. You must press it down and pull the shaft out of the switch. Then you can remove the nut and go from there.

When you pull the shaft out, do it CAREFULLY! It can get hung up on the dimmer wheel and if it's old the switch can be easily damaged.
