Default 78 Gas Tank?

Found a small pin hole in the gas tank, there's a brown spot around the hole but nothing's dripping out that I can see. Can the small hole be fixed? If it can which product and method works best?

Thanks!

I had the same problem. Very little evidence of leaking, just a stain. Probing around the pinhole with a needle turned it into a big hole with several additional holes!
Tried the epoxy repair people recommended but 3 months later had the tank out AGAIN! Repair had blistered and was showing moisture again.
New tank. The new tanks for 78-82 don't have the plastic liner, but neither did the early C3s. I don't worry about it.

Any recommendations from a particular supplier for a good tank?

I agree, get a new tank. It is nearly impossible to drain and rinse your old tank without getting fluid trapped between the metal shell and the plastic liner.

Working on the tank on my 79 right now.

Any of the main suppliers can provide you with a new tank for around $250.

Now the fun stuff. The new tanks are not lined with that green plastic liner in our original tanks. The good news is you no longer have a crappy plastic liner that cracks and leaks. The bad news is you need to treat and seal the new tank. Get you a bottle of POR-15 Metal Ready and a can of tank sealer when you order your tank. You will also need some type of plate to seal the hole where you insert ther sending unit to keep the Metal Ready and sealant from leaking out as you tumble the tank to get an even coating. I made one from thick plastic based on the sending unit gasket. It worked okay, but some of the chemicals leaked. If you can cut a metal plate, that would be better. The Metal Ready and sealant process is a messy PITA process. Wear gloves, and have towels ready

Other things to consider and inspect: sending unit and anti-squeek pads for the tank straps.

"thepartsladi" on ebay. Paid $225 + $20 shipping. Tank was drop shipped from Mid America. 2 day delivery(course I'm in Illinois as is Mid America)
At the time I had a 10% discount coupon from ebay so total was like $222

So, did everyone else who changed out the gas tank have to go through the process cowjazz described, or is doing that exclusively for extra corrosion protection? Just wondering if it's absolutely needed.

Btw, do you want to have a good laugh? Read what happened to me today when I finally read the tank sticker stuck to the gas tank after getting the tank down. Totally wild!

Added insurance. I, for one, didn't bother.
