I purchased Dynomax Ceramacoat Headers and would like to install them but I will need to remove my A/C to install them. My A/C leaks and needs repairing. I do not intend on fixing it now but just want it out of the way to install my headers. The system does leak but I can imagine there is still some R12 lurking in the system.
What precautions do I need to take to take the system down? Can I simply disconnect the compressor and remove it?
Any help would be appreciated because I really do not know a lot about A/C.
I just removed mine 2 weeks ago when I pulled the motor.
I think I'll be leaving it off.
There should be a valve near the back of the compressor that looks like a tire valve. The pressure can be released from this valve. Cover the valve with a rag while doing this. You don't want to breath the gas or get it in your eyes.
I going to be buying headers real soon. I'd be interested in hearing how yours work out.
I just did mine this winter..I just disconnected it and removed it...I keep it stored in the garage till around april when I put it back on again for the Summer.. No problems
If you are enviormentaly conscience, the A/C gasses can be recovered with a compressor/recovery tank by any qualified HVAC technician. The guys who service your home system can do it. The EPA does want these gasses to be recovered and not let loose into the air. BUT... that's the letter of the law just in case you wanted to know. My opinion ???Loosen the valve, cover with a rag, and don't breath... who's gonna tell on you??? :smash: :smash: :smash:
