Default Mirror Replacement

Looking for Ideas on the best way to install new recepticles for the drivers side mirror? My Haynes manual doesn't cover this topic and I am just checking to see if I need to redrill the holes and if any apoxy is required?

The mirror reinforcing plate was originally rivetted to the door skin before it was bonded to the door frame. There is no way to properly align and mount the reinforcing plate with the door skin attached. That is no way short of completely butchering the inner door frame. The cheapest option probably is to buy a good used door and paint to match your car.

I used a device similar to a pop rivet gun that puts a threaded insert into the hole instead of a pop rivet. Then I screwed the mirror mount into that. It worked good. The only thing you have to be careful about when you put the inserts in is that they are aluminum and if you put the same amount of force on them that you need for a pop rivet you will pull the treads right out of the insert. They take very little force to set.
