Default Engine weight

Hello, I have a 79 Vette w/ a stock L48. I am going to replace it w/ a 383 aluminum head motor w/ aluminum intake. My question is, what do these two engines weigh? I am trying to find out the difference in weight between the 383 and the 350. Thanks, Al

I have searched for engine weight info before with not much luck. maybe you will have better luck with just finding the difference in iron heads and aluminum heads? thats the only difference isnt it?

LS1 - 460 lbs

Haven't actually weighed one, but am comfortable with the 535# estimate I've been using for an iron SB 350 w/alum intake, tho that appears slightly high according to previous posts here.

Evidently you are still using the 535 lbs. reported for a 59 C1 283 w/Al. intake.

The spec sheet from my 78 Restoration Package says 622.4 lbs for a L48. 640.7 lbs for a L82. Dry weight. Hope this helps.

Never seen weights that heavy for any SB, so I'd question the info that came with that package. FWIW, my 427 BB w/alum heads and intake should only weigh in the neighborhood of 620#.

Ganey, I think you may be right about that 535# having been a 283 w/alum intake.
