Default Need help selecting SMOOTH riding shocks

I would like to change out my shocks on myy 77 vette. The ones that are on there now are gas shocks that are hard as heck, obviously made more for performance. I need shocks that are made for comfort. Any suggestions and where can I get them?

I just switched (over the weekend) from generic Gas shocks to the Bilsteins that Vette Brakes offers and it made quite a difference in ride quality for the better. Still is a little rough because I have a rather rough suspension to begin with, but the bilsteins really helped more than I thought they would. I am pleased. They have different shocks for fiberglass or steel leaf spring.
good luck,
-terry

Delco Reactec's they are a little more than the cheap parts store types. As for an extra smooth ride, I can't comment, they are soooo much better than the crappy Rancho shocks that were on my car that shocks made out of rubber bands would have been better.

I got the delco's also from zip. Can't say how they are yet because my car is still out of comission for a few more weeks.

Zip had Delco last year for $99.00 for all 4, I couldn't get anyone to confirm the part number and that they were the Reactec's and not the cheaper shocks. So I went to a local A/C Delco Dealer and got them for about $30.00 each, he had to order them from his jobber. The part numbers are 56051,rear and 56050 are the front.
I have since heard that Zip was selling the Reactecs, but I have no proof.
Check with Zip and see if the shock packages they sell are marked with the A/C Delco part number, if they are, order them from there. They'll give a 5% discount by ordering from the Restoration Store here on the forum. The Red Tab at the top of the page will get you there.

Just finished installing Bilsteins on the 82 today. Can't give any info. on the ride but a lot of people recommend them. Will find out after it comes down off the stands.

For steel springs, I liked Konis best,
for Fiberglass springs, I like Bilstein Sports.

I installed Monroe sensormatics just last Summer. I like the ride.... and the price. They were a big change from the old AC delcos on board. Stiff where you need them on turns... but pretty cushy around town.
