Default odometer repair completed

I just successfully repaired my odometer, 70 coupe, based on the article written in this forum by daily driver. Kudos to him. The new drive gear I got from Corvette Central last week was metal, not plastic as they say in their catalogue. Pleasant surprise.
The key to all of this is that the speedo needle doe Not have to be removed. As daily driver points out, all disassembly can be done thru holes in the guage face plate.
In my case I went further in the disassembly than his article. I had to remove the canister that sits on top of the magnetic yoke that begins to drive all gears. This can be done without removing needle. That allowed me to clean the main driver gear teeth, as they appeared clogged with black grit, probably filings from old gear teeth.
If your odo has failed, usually at about 80,000 miles, replace that 9.00 drive gear and you should be alive and well again.
