Default Rear end / Spindle / bearings

With many cars we have wheel bearing hubs.
When the vehicle is jacked up, taking the wheel at the top and bottom(axis movement) you can check if the wheel bearings are due....
If really bad, you can also hear the grinding

With the 1980 corvette, the rear suspension is quite different.
Drive spindle etc...
How do I check if parts require replacement....
Never heard any bad noise due to the headers/flowmasters system.
Last summer the ride was ok. Just recently changed to a monospring and changed a leaking caliper

With the vette still jacked up, I installed the rear wheel and doing the "axis" check, the wheels has some freeplay

Is this a sign to start changing parts ?

Go easy man ! Still learning.

If you hold the tire at 3 and 9 oclock positions and find play, it is the wheel bearings for sure. If you hold it at 6 and 12 oclock and get play, some or all of it will be from the yokes at the diff slippin in and out or play in the strut rod bushings.

The 9-3 hold, snug ! Guess the bearings are good
As for the 6-12 hold, Mmmm guess I will investigate more with the bushings....

Anyone else with input ?
