What's the purpose/benefit of the two rubber extensions that's on a y-pipe hanger (located behind the cat)? And, can the rubber be changed out to be metal, instead?

Maintain distance from body to minimize heat transfer: Minimize vibration to the body; Permit pipes the flexibility to move as they heat, contract, expand and rumble while going from cold to hot, etc.

If the rubber on your original hangers are all stretched out, simply go to any auto parts store and pick up one of those universal rubber hangers with just the metal clip on the end. There should be enough rubber on just one to cut it up and replace the stretched pieces from your originals. Pick up some bolts and nylon insert nuts to replace the rivets.

Thanks ya'll! I'm thinking I may try Kaps idea of swapping out the rubber (it's only one side that stretched out from the holder pin - other side rubber is ok) instead of purchasing a brand new bracket.
Btw, Mid America is listing this bracket on their web site for just over $140! (ouch). I would think for that price they'd include a cat with it. Haven't called to ask, I'm still cringing from the initial sticker shock for a stinking bracket.

If you are not a "purest", you can go to NAPA or anyone of the auto parts chains and buy a universal fit bracket with the rubber straps and accomplish the same thing.
I'm not that concerned about the nuts and bolts in originality, especially for attaching the exhaust. I like your idea even better since that would get the job done faster and still save $'s. Thanks again!
I found a tire dealer that deals in commercial tires. He had a yard full of old tires. I took the rubber from the mount with me to match up to. I believe I used the sidewall from a six ply tire to make the rubber straps. You will have to drill out the rivet and use a nut and bolt in it's place.
Good Luck
