I'm doing Auto to 4 Speed conversion in my '79. I'm installing AutoGear
M22 Muncie trans. Would like to use Hurst Super Shifter instead of std. Comp. Plus. I know Super shifter sits higher on the trans. I will probably have to cut larger tunnel hole for the Super shifter, not a problem. I guess my question is, will the Super shifter locate centered
thru my stock console, I know someone out there has installed Super
shifter in a C3.
I'm in the middle of a conversion on my 71 but got a new comp plus, you might call the hurst guys and maybe they can tell you the differences between the two shifters..
It used to be the Super Shifter was mounted higher on the trans and had a reverse lockout. I've got a Comp Plus and it's a perfect fit/replacement for the stock thing.
I just installed a Hurst Competion Plus in my 80 model. I was lucky enough to have had a friend that has a lift at his house. It works great and we had no clearence issues. It was a pain to get the three bolts off the crossmember and we broke an exhaust bolt. Other than that it was straight forward. Man that is much better than the OEM that was 25 years old and would hang up from time to time. No I did not replace the OEM transmission. I am glad I did it. I hope this helps.
I know the Comp. plus made for vette will work fine, but I would rather use a Super Shifter (not the one w/seperate reverse lever), figured
somebody has installed one in C3.
