Default speed demon base settings

i just got my new speed demon 750 in and wanted to verify i read all of the setup threads correctly.

the speed demon set up paper by lars says to make sure that both primary and secondary idle transfer slots to .20

it doesnt mention the idle eze though.

the instructions for the carb says that the secondaries have to be just barely covered with 2 turns out on on the idle eze.

i dont want to have to take the carb off once its on.

which way should i set it.

Follow Lars. I tried both ways on my 750 annular demon. Idle eze did not do much. I understand that unless you have a very big cam the idle eze has little effect.

BTW.. you will be taking the carb off at least a few times unless you are lucky. As with any carb you will likely be changing jets for your setup. I also had to change the IFR's from 36 to 33... it was too rich at idle out of the box. The mid and high end was pretty close out of the box.

If the idle transfer slots all look like small squares, you're good. Set the mixture screws all the way in, then back them all out 2 full turns. Idle-Eze all the way in, then 2 turns out on it too. Carb on, get it full of gas and start. You probably will have to play with the throttle to keep it running while you adjust the mixture screws to get it to idle. From there, check the floats, and keep dinking with the idle screws. It tales some time, but it'll all work out. If you have to adjust the idle screw on the primary side, remember the initial setting so you can get back to it. Adjust the Idle eze a little at a time. I went thru this and the first time was fugly. Once I got a handle on the 4 corner idle and how the idle-eze works, it's a snap. And like Retro says, without a big cam the Idle-Eze won't have much effect. I've got enough cam that if I get 14" vacuum at idle I'm happy.

thanks
i had always had good luck with the .20 on both primary and secondary but i stripped out the bolt hole on one of my fuel bowls so i figured what the hell, lets get a new one.

first thing i did was totally strip the demon down and check for metal shavings.
fortunatly i didnt find any.

the setup instructions though threw me though, it said it was an update in the book to cover the rear idle slots.

i already set it up like lars' paper says. figured that was the answer i just wanted to make sure. gonna leave the idle eze all the way closed for now. stock cam for now so i shouldnt need more air than that at idle.

so far so good,

carb installed and bench set according to Lars paper.

a splash of fuel down the vent hole and a pump of the pedal and it fired right up.

idle seems pretty smooth right at 800 rpms in park.

vacuum gauge is holding steady at 19 in/hg
fuel level in the sight windows are right at the top of the three lines.

now i just cant wait to take it for a test ride.

update

just wanted to come back with this after some testing.

it was jetted a little lean from the factory, i was getting a little lean surge at cruise.
67 front
75 rear.
i moved the 75 to the front and put in the 80s from the holley i took off of it in the rear.

car is idling smoothly at 800 rpms in park
700 rpms in gear

vacuum is 20 in/hg at idle in park.

smooth take off, no missing, sputtering, bogging, backfiring, nothing.

i tried a weaker spring than what it came with but just got a bog when the secondaries kicked in so i went back to the original.

just a tiny puff of smoke when the kickdown puts the tranny into lower gear.

gonna pull a plug when it cools down to see whats up.
