I removed mine on my 74 and it cleaned up the look of the engine bay a TON, close to the best thing Ive ever done to the car

I don't think the heat was the cause, its most likely the refrigerant oil thrown by your compressor's front seal to the under-side of your hood, which will then be soaked inside and will cause paint problems. This is a VERY common problem with the A5 compressors and vettes.

Yep, it's only for sound deading. Oh, and getting filthy dirty and looking like crap. I believe in taking them off any car I've ever owned and I've had a lot. The engine compartment is a pretty hot place, I take them off thinking the engine compartment will stay a little cooler. I don't like hood insulation for this reason, trapping heat. I've never had the paint foul. Man, think of how the sun heats your paint up.

While I had my engine out and the hood off I gutted mine and feathered out where the retainer tabs were glued, then shot it out in Flat black. Looks great and gave me the extra 1/2" I wanted for the air filter retainer. If it was for noise, I couldn't tell a difference.

I have hooker sidepipes though..

My ac does this, how can I prevent it, Ive seen shields to just protect from the sling-age, but is there something I can replace to fix it?

Im not trying to steal your thread!
