Default Engine sufix codes

A friend of mine has a 1978 Vette with a replacement engine. Were trying to determine where the engine came from but when we look at the engine sufix numbers we found "K 06 79 800" I know the K means the engine was build in st catherines and the o6 means june. the 79 I believe means the 79th day of june ???? and the 800 which should be a 3 letter code has no reference when I searched it online. Any ideas??

The 79th of June??

I'll try finding a site I used to visit that should be able to tell you which crate motor you've got.

The site doesn't seem to be working right now but these guy deal with GM crate motors.
