Default How much oil

I have a 79 with a L82. Bought about 4yrs ago. Anyway when I change oil, all I can put in is 4 quarts. According to the dipstick. I was telling that to someone, he said it should hold 5 quarts which I agree it should. So I'm asking if it holds 4 or 5. Thanks

mine (79 L82) holds 5, you should put some in the filter when you spin it on, it will hold almost a quart by itself , not quite though. if you dont fill the filter, run the engine , you should be a quart low after that.

If you don't change the filter it will only take 4.

That is really odd because my '79 L48 is the same way. All I can think of is a replacement dipstick that is not marked right. I simply re-marked the dipstick with a vibro etcher after getting the level right with a 5 quart (and filter) oil change.

I was thinking wrong dipstick as well. The re-mark idea is a good one.

Unless you're using an old PF35 or 1218 oil filter your filter probably only holds 1/2 quart. Some of the newer filters are even smaller.

I'm using the PH30 Fram filter. I'll put in 5 quarts and remark the dipstick. Thanks for all the input.

The PH30 is a half quart. The PH13 is a full quart.
