Default th350 ... are they all the same?

Are all no lockup th350 the same? AKA will any core be re-buildable for my 77' l48?
If I can keep driving my current setup and re-build one on the side.
(while I'm driving the current trans) That would rock.
is a mid 80's truck tranny the same just with a diff tailshaft?
thanks

Mid 80's light duty pickup is likely a lockup TH350C long tail.
You could put a short tail TH350C in your car and gain a little MPG. All you need is 12v to engage lock up. Factory used a vacuum switch that allowed lock up in high vacuum state. You could wire it with a toggle switch to engage on highway.

none....no locking torque converter, it's not really locking anyway...it's a clutch plate in the torque converter that engages and simulates a manual clutch/pressure plate ie. 1:1

Make sure you get a Chevy 350 and not a BOP 350, they have a different bellhousing bolt pattern. (BOP = Buick, Olds, Pontiac)

Also, there are other trannies that are similar to a 350, but are not as strong. These are the 250 and 325 trannies.

I would suggest getting a book on TH350's before you buy one to make sure your getting what you need. I made this painful mistake once.

That certainly sounds like good advise....
So as long as the tranny's not wadded entirely a standard kit and shift it will be sufficient to re-build it?

Default 1979 l82 th350

I took my 79 Vette in just to have the seals replaced and within 2 days it seams one of the new seals failed. I ended up have to have my car towed. It goes back to the shop tomorrow and my main thought is that the trans. is gone. My question, is a 1979 Chevy Malibu short tail trans the same?
