i finally recieved my headers, im going to install them this weekend. But when i was looking through my repair manual it said something about like injector tubes or some kind of tubes??? Is replacing these things not as easy as extracting the manifolds and bolting on the headers? Maybe a step by step would help....Thanks
your car is a 78...since all of these (to my knowledge) came with A.I.R (air injection reactor) this is the ubiquitous smog pump, which connects to air tubes that inject air into the pocket just behind the exhaust valves.
for example here is the drivers side of a 78 you can see the air tubes on the top of the headers.
Unless your 78 L48 is a California or high alt car it won't have the smog pump or plumbing.
Remove manifolds and bolt on the headers.
You'll need a spacer for the AC bracket and removing the starter will help with access.
once upon a time yes, now i leave it hooked up year round. it doesnt cost me any HP I can measure and it saves me the grief of trying to remember where i put all this hard to replace smog stuff every two years
If you still have your emmissions sticker on the firewall just above the power brake booster it will tell you if you have AIR or not...if it doesnt indicate A.I.R. then bolt your headers on and enjoy
