Default Vortec Heads

Looking at building a 350 with some vortec heads, out of a late 90's truck I was thinking. Then just toss a performer intake on and a decent cam. I want to end up somewhere around 300 horse, for the guys that have done it are there any major things I should know about?

Default watch your CR and keep under 500 lift for stockers..

Your prob aware that you need a vortec style intake...
you can get good HP with stock valvetrain but keep it under 500 lift..
make certain via castin no tha these are 350 vortecs not 305..
350 heads are 64cc. keep an eye out for your Compression ratio if your going with flat tops.
have these guys that are pros on here guide you..
they're pretty cool..
hehehe

BTW my 383 has stock vortecs and a blueracer 350/350 cam...
these heads are famous for building power... I'd bet a 350/350 cam and vortecs on an old l48 would be 325-350 hp....(that's a smoger base)

I would like to run it on 87 pump gas so I'm guessing I will need to keep it around 9 to 1. I am not looking to build a high horsepower motor just a reliable yet powerful motor for daily driving.

good luck...My 97 Chevy Z71 truck pings on anything less than 89 octane. Vortecs require at least mid grade.

Well I can figure the gas out later. Maybe I'll just run midgrade then.

  • L48-style "dished" pistons
  • iron vortec heads from 96-2000 truck
  • Professional products intake # 52007 (lowrise, dual plane, both qjet & holley flange)
  • summit # K1103 cam&lifter kit
  • felpro # 1094 head gaskets

Iron Vortecs also need self-align rocker arms ... above does NOT need roller/rollertip ... stock stamped vortec rockers are fine for above combo. They also require centerbolt valve covers.

above will make +325HP @ about 9.5:1 scr on stock deck, +0.030 overbore 355".

compare above combo operating characteristics to GMPP 350HO crate # 12486041
