Default 82 Speedometer calibration

I´m going to change the rear differential of my 82 from 2.72 to 3.08.
Does anyone know which drive and driven gear for the speedometer drive is installed in the stock car (700R4).
Also when I open the speedometer drive on the transmission to check will there be a mess with fluid coming out? How to do it best?

Parts Book shows drive gear is the 19-tooth Yellow.

Driven gears could have been 39, 40, 41, or 42 teeth depending on tires and axle.

What size tires you running on the rear?

P255 60R15.
What if I remove the speedometer gear housing?

Should be able to jack up the rear or use ramps and not spill any fluid.

Need to pull out your current driven gear and see what it is.

The 39 tooth used 1 sleeve, the 40, 41 and 42 used another.

My stock 82 has a 19t (yellow) drive with a 42t (green) driven, with 255-60R15 tires and a 2.87 diff. and 700R4 tranny....

Yeah, 42 tooth sounds good for you and I'm figuring the 45-tooth Light Blue gear #9775187 for 3.07's and 255's if it has the 19-tooth drive.
