Default Keisler TKO 500 question

I recieved an updated shifter kit some time ago from Keisler but am just not getting ready to install it. My question is do I have to remove the transmission or can I drop the rear of the tranny enough to R/ R the shifter. 71 vert / 454 with removable crossmember.

Thanks in advance.

You MIGHT be able to do it from the transmission tunnel opening. Is your opening stock or have you cut it open larger any?

Here is an old post on the shifter upgrade. On page 3 Richard from Keisler addresses the removal of the trans. He said "yes it does need to come out"

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...r-upgrade.html

I did this a few years ago and did a detailed write up with pictures. I just can't find it right now.

I did not cut the tunnel so it has the stock opening. I do have a quick lift in my garage. Perhaps I can try it by just dropping the tail of the tranny. I just didnt want to take out the tranny if I didnt have to.

Though not a Keisler, I removed my shifter housing before installing my trannie to give me lots of clearance to slide the trannie into the bellhousing. The last thing I did was to reinstall the shifter housing after the crossmember was reinstalled. This was a auto to standard switch so I did not have to cut the tunnel at all. I do not see why you would have to lower the trannie.

I sent the pictures to you. If it is the same piece that was sent to me you have to get into the sifter area below. You remove the shifter than there is a "leg" the goes to the rail system. This is what has to be worked on. I don't think you can get to this with it in the car. If it is just the shifter that should be able to be done. But if it is the little piece I sent a picture of I'm afraid it has to come out.

Does this look like the piece that is going to be replaced

Lets see if I can document this again. I may have forgotten a few things but here goes. The first picture is the little roll pin tha tyou have to pull out in order to get the shifter out. Pull this all the way out then remove the shifter.

This is what it looks like when the shifter is coming out.

Then remove the shifter plate and under it you will find this. You can see the roll pin that needs to come out here.

Here you can see the roll pin coming out. It takes some force to get it moving so don't be afraid to hit it. Kind of a weird angle also.

Then lay the new piece in and you bolt in the new one where the roll pin used to be.

Then put the plate back on and you can see how the ball fits in and then tighten down the 2 smaller bolts.

This is great !! Looks pretty straight forward once I drop the tranny.

I am still running the stock setup with mine after all these years. I never did contact them about the new setup. I am guessing after all these years its probably too late.

No I doubt it. Just tell them the shifter is loose which it proably has loosened up some over the years.
