Default Please Help

Can anyone look under their hood and tell me where the ground strap is supposed to be connect to the engine. The one end comes from the ac/heater box. 78 Shark

The AC on my 78' is long gone, but I had a few pics of it. There is a compressor ground wire that connects to one of the compressor mounting bolts. The bolt that is loose in this pic. Is that the one you mean?

Default Wiring ground

Duke,
I think he means the one near the firewall that is factory fitted under one of the starter motor bolts. It should have a hole (eyelet???) in the soldered on end that is about 10mm in diameter, big enough for a starter motor bolt to go through.

I've got that problem now as the gear reduction mini starter I fitted has countersunk Allen head bolts and the earth wire will not fit there. A transmission to engine block bolt would be OK, but I think that those bolts are 7/16" and the hole in the earth wire would have to be enlarged.

Main thing to do though, is to make sure that the earth wire is grounded to the chassis, even if that means bolting it to the engine first. Then make sure that the engine to chassis earth wire is tight and has good metal to metal contact at each end.

Regards from Down Under

Yes KapsSA, that looks like it. When I purchased my car the distributor cover was missing so I guess they previous owner moved the ground strap to the outside ac/heater box going then going to the valve cover. Where does you the strap go? It looks as if it go to the intake bolt. Thanks for the pic and support. 78 Shark

Goes to the valve cover bolt. It's only purpose is to ground the shield. Don't see why they'd hook it up elsewhere.
