Can anyone tell me why my stock intake manifold has blackend the orange paint, (as if it is burnt) near the center of the chamber on both the left and right side of the manifold. Hadn't really noticed when it actually occured. Could this be related to a fouled carburetor?
Exhaust crossover is plugged, tray the edelbrock performer its great to 5500 rpm, and is smog legal all linkage fits as does the air cleaner, I like the holly spread bore.
Yes, it's probably the heat-riser ports. If you have removed the heat riser stuff, hot-air choke, and EGR, then go ahead and use intake gaskets that have the heat crossover ports blocked. This will also help keep the carb cooler. Granted, not much, but every little bit helps. If you do remove the intake, look into fitting a lifter valley baffle of some kind, or a heat shield to the bottom of the intake to keep the hot oil from transferring more heat to the carb and fuel mix.
I think you are the first person I ever heard of liking a Holley spread bore!
I had one once and had to take off the bowls to adjust the floats and just general problems all the time.
That is good that it is running fine for you.
You are right about the Edelbrock performer intake, they are the best intake for swapping. Plus you can run a quad,Holley or Edelbrock carb without a spacer or adaptor.
