I was getting the 72 ready for the Hot Rod Power Tour, and am really considering a 5-speed transmission for the car. It probably should get a perfect fit TKO600, but I really like the lower price fo the T45. and don't mind fabricating up a transmission mount and cutting the driveshaft. I really don't want to mess up the console any. I am not sure if the shifter can be offset like in the TKO models.
Keisler advertises 425 HP and TQ for the T45. My GM ZZ454 LS6 motor puts out 440 HP and 500 TQ at the crank.
Should I take the risk?
The Power Tour would be a great place to test it's ability to handle the car.
I guess if it doesn't hold up, I could put it in my 71. It has a small block 350 in it.
I got an email from Shafi. he has a kit for the 68-82 Vettes and offered it to me with free shipping. It inlcudes the shifter linkage to put it in the right location.
I may get it, but I am still a little worried about my engine torque being too much for it.
I have the weaker T5 out of a 92 V8 Camaro sitting behind my gm crate 350, I know I am only putting out 245rwhp/320ftlbs, but the tranny (both the T5 and T45) should be able to take it, unless you put some wide sticky tires on, and as long as you don't power shift....A CF member, Norval (http://forums.corvetteforum.com/memb...alwilhelm.html) had a slightly stronger mustang T5 (only rated for 350ftlbs) bolted up to his blown motor and liked to hit the strip, was holding up fine last I heard....

The T45RS has been upgraded with a stronger 26 spline input shaft and the torque rating of 425 lb ft is based on constant input. I would not hesitate to run it with a big block, but if you plan on hitting the track with sticky tires the TKO may be a better option.
The T45 is a great tranny with super slick shifting characteristics being largely based on its bigger brother, the T56. For your application I would probably recommend a gear ratio of 3.36. The T45 has a 3.37 1st gear and will get pretty short the lower you go in gearing.
We are shooting photos and video of a T45RS install in our shop right now and should be posting them here after they go through production.
