I am thinking about changing my motor again. I think it will cost me more to take my short block to a machine shop to redo than to by an assembled short block. Rather than getting a year one crate motor i was thinking of getting a 383 shortblock from Blue print engines ( summit or jeggs) and putting a set of Brodix heads on it.
Here is my opinion on crate engines. Over the years I have had my machine shop rebuild engines for me. More often times the original engine can be rebuilt to the liking of my customers. If they have a 76 vette and want 400+ HP, I tell them that we need to start with another engine and build it to take the power 'cause the bottom end of a 76 vette engine won't hold up do to weakened parts unlike a 65 vette engine. So they look for an engine on line and I tell them to look at the warranty and guarantee VERY CLOSELY!!! Also that the cost of the engine figure that they will make about 30% profit. Remove that profit from the engine cost and that is what they will have in it. Now start pricing out good AMERICAN MADE parts for the engine and see what you get. You may be surprised. If I get a powerhouse engine from another source other than my machine shop I am paying $$$$ for it but is it top notch and no junk inside and they stand behind it without any bickering. I can not comment on the company that you have chosen but just be careful and take your time on finding the right solution for you problem and performance needs/requirements. Best of luck.

Any opinions on the Blue Print motors??
Here is my opinion. It will cost more to take your block to a machine shop to redo than buying a blueprint short block, Blueprint engines are filled with the cheapest made in china parts they can find. Cast crank, cheap rods, cast pistons. No ARP fasteners. Why do you think they are cheap. They have a forged version but the only US made part in it might be probe pistons and it is $3000.
I like this: http://www.tandlengines.com/chevy_sb...408%20A-1.html $4800 and it comes assembled and dynoed fully forged with a full roller valvetrain. They have a cheaper version. But figure the cost of a built short block, Decent heads, roller cam and valvetrain assembly, gaskets, assembly and tuning
