Default desktop dyno - cam files source

Hey all you DD2000 users out there - I just found a site - you may or may not already know about - that has apparently a whole heck of a lot of cam files - and a reasonably nifty search feature.

check it out http://www.smokemup.com/utilities/cams/index.cfm

Be aware there is a limit to the number of files you can download - this is due apparently to some yahoo downloading 300+ files and then zipping it off to a pile of people.

also if you are looking for head flow files - you can find quite a lot here http://www.prestage.com/carmath/ddheads.asp

Thanks i couldn't remeber where i saw that!:) Yesterday i went down to Mallory/Mr.Gasket/Earson cams to get my Unilite tweeked to 18 degrees max mech advance at 3100. Dart Pro 1 heads require only 32 degrees of adv. The manager of Earson cams was there and I talked to him about cams in general. They use Crane cams blanks and they will do custom profile solid roller if you run their stickers out the door for $225. That's much better than the @$320 I spent for a small base circle billet sleeved gear for iron distib's

They have an all new motor and chassis dyno setup

Thanks....I have started playing with DD2000 again, and was looking for more combos to try  . I have noticed one thing, which I was questioning. I put Brodix T1 heads (with the airflow file entered by me from their site info), and picked up almost 100 HP out of the box with my current setup  . Also, I pick up almost 50 HP just switching to roller cam, even with my current flat tappet profile. Is this right? If that's the case, all I have to do is buy a cam and heads to go up to 525 HP :D

525HP sounds quite high, But maybe its right. I have found some of those airflow files that seem to be very generous. Making a flow or cam files is super easy, All you need are the specs of the cam or the flow profile of the head, which you can usually find on the mfg's website.

Changing from flat tappet lifters to rollers also will change the duration of the camshaft. Leaving the same duration for both will give you a big horsepower gain.
The flat tappet contacts the cam at points across it's face while a roller only contacts the cam at a point centered on the lifter bore.

Ahh.....I was kind of wondering...lol. My cam profile is very wimpy for a roller (fair for a flat tappet). Why can't I get an easy 500+ HP? :D

I have never used the pgm. There is a limit to what it can do. Step 1 is read the instructions. Evidently (since at least 2 posted) it says not to use roller >sometimes< even in the case of a roller cam. Also, it may have been MoMo who said the pgm is overly sensitive to carb cfm.

I came up with 394 HP at 5000 RPM and 439 Ft TQ at 3500 and 4000 RPM.

Actually Ganey, the program is not too bad about CFM. CFM is only a minor factor (as it usually is). It is the head and cam numbers and styles it is picky about (HP wise). I tell ya...if you plug in the right head flow numbers, DD2000 has a cargasm. :D

Thank you very much for plugging it in for me.
Does anyone else agree that my intake seems to be the most limiting part of my combination? What are your opinions on my "stow-away" camshaft. I would rather have a XE268.

is the XE268 too much for a stock '77 L48, with a performer intake, 600cfm carb, K&N, true dual exhaust with soon to come dynomax headers?? any suggestions on which would be better?

For an automatic yes that is too much cam. I don't know what your rear gears are but I am assuming they are 3.36s. A better cam choice would be the Comp Cams High Energy 260H or Comp Cams XE256. With the high energy cam you can keep your stock valve springs, but with the Xtreme Energy cam you need to run matching valve springs. Either of the two cams are comparable in performance but the XE is a newer grind. Either cam should provide adequate bottom end....and you should definetly notice a difference in performance!

Any other questions please feel free to ask.

Ganey is correct, the program over emphasises certain things - especially in the area of roller cams. If it is a fairly mild grind for a roller the program instructions say you should model it as a solid flat tappet. It gives no real guidelines as to when this should be done.

I also read somewhere that the program tends to exaggerate at lower RPMsand milder cam profiles but that for somewhat wilder motors it is more accurate. for example the article I read said that the program could be off as much as 10% below 3000 rpm.

The program is neat and kinda fun to play with but take all of the numbers from it with a grain of salt. Also the program documentation states that these are numbers based on an engine mounted in a dyno cell. the exhaust therefore is not as installed on the car and no accounting for accessories - these are therefore gross numbers - not NET and not Rear wheel. so keep that in mind

Agree with fauxrs on the validity of the numbers but the program is very good and showing trends when swapping cams and heads. Definitely shows the effects of a larger cam moving the power curve upwards.
