Default Fuel gauge problem

Hello
I pulled the fuel tanki out of my 75 to replace the fuel lines. After I put everthing back in place my fuel gauge is now pegged all the way to the right, way past the full mark.

When the ignition is off, it will drop to the "F" mark. Once the key is turned on the gauge will move to the right, and is pegged at what would be the 3 o'clock position.

What are some ideas as to what the problem is, and short of dropping the tank again, how can I determine if the float is moving.

Thanks for the ideas
KDF

Circuit is open. You need to check both the float and ground wires. You might be able to reach both through the gas lid area (remove lid for more room and pull up the rubber boot).

Hello,
Thanks for the suggestion.

I checked one of the connections at the location that is above the driver side muffler. This has a 2 wire connection. This was still connected and did not appear loose.

I remember that there is a 1 wire ground with a rubber cap plug that is supposed to snap onto the top of the fuel tank area. I will pull of the
rubber boot this weekend to see if it is still attached. Hopefully it is in an area that I can get to.

On the 75 the fuel tank connections are all on the top.
On the 73 and earlier models they were on the bottom. This would have made the job a whole lot easier to do.

Correct. On top of the tank, there is a blade terminal for the sender wire and a small pin that has a black wire attached to for the ground. The ground wire has a little boot on it that plugs down over the pin. Mine has gotten loose on occasion and the needle goes right to the 3 o'clock position.
