Default What would you do in this situation?

First off, I having my first child in May. ie: money is going to be tight do you:

a) Replace the clutch, fix the radiator and drive it with a questionable frame one more year.

or

b) Spend the money to be used to get a new clutch and rad plus tax return to find a new frame and start ripping the car apart?....remember money's tight you might not get exactly the way you want it.

and finally

c)keep it in the garage and leave it alone for a year.

Option C, I know I can't do it. As for the first two, I am torn between them.

HELP ME!.....PLEASE

Personally, I would get the goodies and drive it around for one more year. I would definetly take it easy when driving though. By the way congratulations!

While I brought my radiator to the local shop and they went througt it for $85 ,keeping in mind that it was'nt a correct vett rad, a real one may cost more to repair. I dont know how bad your clutch is .But as for the frame, repro sections are reasonable depending what you need , example I bought two 23" frame rails @ $105 apiece and replaced them myself. and a lot of repairs can be made w/out removing the body ,from underneath. Welders are also available used in the local want-ads. And you can get just about any one section you need .Just my .02 ,but it might keep you running.Good Luck ,Bruce :smash:

Normally the rad. only needs to be taken to a rad. shop to rod out. Cost about $50. Maybe the frame can be welded up so it is safe to drive.

I figure the rad is an easy fix, just an annoying leak at the inlet hose stub.
I have previously repaired the frame, but there is just too much steel rotted away, the integrity(sp?) is compromised.

Thanks for the advice, keep it comin!

Remember that every project will cost 2 or 3 times what you think they will. So will the cost of having a baby. That's speaking from experience. Due the minimum to get it on the road safely this year and take the rest of the year to drive and plan next winters projects. Part of this exercise is to keep peace with the new mom and not spend the money on car parts that should have spent buying diapers and baby formula. Good luck.

Cloth diapers? At least you'll have some good shop/garage rags when the babies out of diapers. MikeC, my wife is due February 22 but we are scheduled for a "C" section on February 13. I've purchased most of the parts I wanted so I can work on my car during the week I'm off helping my wife when she comes home from the hospital. The question is will I have any time to work on my car?

Ditto. Once you start pulling stuff off to put it on a new frame, you're going to find all kinds of things that just HAVE to be fixed while you've got it apart. A few years and many thousands of dollars later you're back on the road with a great ride. But if money is tight, this just doesn't look like it's in the cards for you.

Hey, bring that baby up right and when he/she's a little older, you'll have someone to help you with all that work on a frame off! :yesnod:
