Comfort me please.. This is the worst feeling in the world especially when I'm so close to finishing.. I noticed a really loud knocking about a week ago, and thought great the stupid plug wires hit a header. After looking though I saw that the gas filter was dripping quite a lot and the engine probably wasn't getting enough gas. I got a new gas filter and Teflon taped the hell out of the retaining nut and everything stopped leaking and all cylinders ran. Well it recently started this again and I'm noticing some dripping from the same place, is there an O-ring that I'm missing that's causing the gas leak and the engine miss or something worse? Cars a 74 350.

humm could you tell us what carb you have on it and maybe an pic of what aria is dripping.
You shouldn't use teflon tape on fuel lines. Quadrajets are notorious for bad inlet threads. You may need to have a carburetor shop fix those threads, using something like Heli-Coil.
Carb is stock, I see the point with the teflon tape, fraying and clogging up the filter.. That makes sense. I don't have a pic at the moment because its about midnight, but its right above cylinder 8? (last cylinder on right passenger side) going into the carb from the fuel pump. Its like a metal nut with a metal line going into it from the pump. That probably won't suffice and I apologize. But when gas is pumped you can see it leak noticeably.
What I'm worried about is, was this the engine miss problem?
If that gas leak continues, you won't need to worry about the engine missing. Everything will be missing, as in up in smoke.
If it is missing at idle or low speed, it is probably not a fuel starvation issue. The carb may still be the source of the miss if it is not set up correctly and properly adjusted. More than likely its a bad plug, or plug wire. Next up the chain would be a stuck valve or one that is not seating properly. It gets worse, and more expensive after that.
Probably a plug wire malfunction I'm hoping. They're new, but the longer ones weren't set under the engine properly so they could have hit the headers or just malfunctioned some how. Really hope it is.. and that my engine doesn't explode from leaking fuel line. haha thanks guys.
NAPA parts stores and others have oversize carb inlet fittings for stripped Rochester quadrajet carbs. There should be a gasket between the carb inlet fitting and the carb body to seal the fitting to the carb. Take the fitting back off (there should be a fuel filter and spring inside?) look at the threads and see what kind of shape they are in, if they are stripped, you need oversize fitting for second chance at getting it right. Look at a shop manual for fuel filter replacement to see what your Vette needs to do the job correctly. Do it once and do it RIGHT!
I would not use the self threading nut, it is not a permanent fix. Take the carb to a carb repair place for a threaded insert. If you use the self threading nut, and it leaks again, the carb is not repairable as there won't be enough metal for the inserts.

There isn't and the threading isn't bad. You guys are the best. As for the miss I'm going to move some spark plugs around and see if the problem moves and take care of that.. But thanks a lot guys.
